Koichi Kawai was born in 1886 and began working in the piano industry in his early teens. He was heavily involved in the introduction of pianos and piano manufacturing in Japan and was awarded many patents for his work. In 1927 he founded the Kawai Musical Instrument Research Laboratory specifically to improve the manufacturing of pianos. Over the last 85 years the Kawai Musical Instrument Manufacturing Company has become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of quality acoustic pianos. In the 1970’s and 80’s Kawai also produced a very successful range of electronic organs, synthesizers, keyboards and a small range of digital pianos. As the market for organs declined Kawai concentrated on developing its range of digital pianos and over the last 10 years has become one of the major digital piano manufacturers. The Kawai models are renowned for their great sound and superior quality cabinets.
The current Kawai range include CA, CN, CS, CL home models, the E series portable models, the MP stage series and the CP (Concert Performer Series) which feature many extra sounds and rhythm styles.
